In Light Of The New 50 Shades of Grey Trailer

fuckyeahsexpositivity:

E.L. James knows as much about BDSM as she would have found in a five minute Google search, which is to say that she knows precisely jack shit.

50 Shades of Grey does not depict a realistic kinky relationship, nor does it depict a healthy relationship of either the kinky or vanilla variety.

It is a Twilight fanfic, and has all the elements of Edward and Bella’s abusive relationship with kink added for extra flavor. Just as Edward and Bella are not a healthy or realistic couple, neither are Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele.

Christian Grey is an abuser who manipulates a young woman with zero knowledge of BDSM into a relationship with him. He knows she is ignorant of what a healthy BDSM relationship looks like, and uses this to:

  • ignore and override her attempts at negotiation,
  • play without a safeword (since she doesn’t know that they exist),
  • create a false dichotomy of “either we’re kinky my way or we just don’t have sex at all,”
  • threaten and stalk her,
  • rape her,
  • prevent her from discussing her relationship with anyone other than him,
  • and control aspects of her personal life, including what car she drives, what medications she takes, and how she spends her free time.

This is not BDSM. This is not sexy. This is abuse.

Using 50 Shades as your basis for how a kinky relationship works (for critical or practical purposes) is like treating Titanic: The Legend Goes On as a historical documentary. Don’t do it.

The saddest thing is that most people will find this humorous instead of serious. We’re standing right beside one another, and yet we text others instead of actually speaking to each other. Have you ever sat down and thought about how uncomfortable we now are around one another that it’s so bad that we literally pretend to be texting someone when we’re not, just so it’s less awkward to stand beside people? What’s supposed to strengthen our bonds has taken away from it. It’s time to take our faces out of our phones and notice the world, give a kind gesture to someone, and go SEE your friends instead of just texting them.
I’m going to let that sink in.

Ah yes let me just up and leave school right in between my classes so I can go see the friend 40 miles away that i’m currently texting instead of making idle chit chat with the people around me that I don’t particularly care for.Fuck your pretentious shit.

"whines evil technology is making people antisocial its not real communication if its not face to face and im a pretentious self righteous shitbaby that asks random people on the street for the time and feels good about it"

i love saying Thomas edison was a witch

Ok but like fire IS pretty scary can we admit that

Cinderella: Do nothing to help yourself. Accept the abuse you get, because one day a fairy person might come out of nowhere and magic you a better life.
Sleeping Beauty: You are not a person in your own right. You exist only to be a pretty thing to look at and drive the plot.
Snow White: Accept whatever offer a stranger makes to you. (I’m not kidding - she does it three times in the original story.)
Jasmine, technically Aladdin: The story is not about you. You are the love interest. You are the prize.
Ariel: It’s completely okay to make a deal with the devil and give up your entire life and free agency (i.e. your voice) for a man you’ve never met. Everything’ll turn out just fine in the end.

Some disney princesses were ok, but some of them could be seen as somewhat sexist ( their stories, not so much the actual princesses,) but a lot of these disney movies were made when people were less enlightened about gender issues in general.

I think it’s important to realize when most of these movies came out.

Aurora was grateful to the fairies for caring for her and gladly helped them when needed.
Jasmine wanted to go against the expected norms and marry for love, not just for status.
Ariel wanted to be part of the human world BEFORE she met Eric ( “Part of Your World” ring a bell?)  Eric was just icing on the cake and Ursula, like any good salesman, successfully used that point to make a deal.

IM SORRY DID YOU COMPLETELY IGNORE JASMINE’S ENTIRE CHARACTER ABOUT WANTING TO CHOOSE HER OWN LOVE AND INSTEAD CLAIM SHE’S NOTHING BUT A PRIZE?!?!?!!
YEAH, FUCK FEMALES THINKING FOR THEMSELVES AND DOING WHAT THEY WANT, CLEARLY SINCE SHE MARRIED THAT MAKES HER NOTHING BUT A PRIZE. I MEAN IT’S NOT LIKE THAT’S THE ENTIRE POINT OF FEMINISM OR ANYTHING.
THERE’S PROBABLY SOME MORE BULLSHIT IN OP’S STATEMENTS IN HE OTHERS, (LIKE THE FACT THAT CINDERELLA WAS FUCKING ABUSED), BUT IM TOO PISSED TO GO INTO THEM RIGHT NOW.

Cinderella: Though you may not see it, you deserve happiness. Don’t let inherent selflessness stand in the way of letting yourself be happy and in fact demanding the happiness you deserve.
Sleeping Beauty: I got nothing on this one, it was the 50’s, and the original fairy tale itself is more about Philip than Aurora. Which I guess you could argue is sexist, only not really because she’s not the main character. Fuck, the prince in Snow White doesn’t even have a name and talks maybe once? And Cinderella’s prince is similar. Because they are not the main characters. So don’t even start on that one.
Snow White: Snow White doesn’t make good decisions. That’s the point. She’s a cautionary tale. There are positive points to innocence, but not if that is going to endanger you. There were kind figures, aka the dwarves, who took care of her to try and protect her from her own innocence and naivete.
Jasmine: What the actual fuck, did you even watch the movie? She’s been addressed already, so I’ll let that stand.
Ariel: Just because you are somewhere doesn’t mean that you have to stay there. Get out, explore, do what makes you happy even if those who love you don’t understand it. Because in the end, Triton saw that his daughter was indeed happy and changed his mind from his previous prejudices for her.

Jesus christ, why is feminists can’t tell the difference between a weak female character (Bella Swan) and a genuinely powerless one like Cinderella?  What the fuck was a penniless orphan in the Victorian era supposed to do?  Tell her stepbitches to suck it and go found her own company?  You think you’re living in a patriarchy now, try being in Cindy’s shoes.  Notice how LADY Tremaine is planning to climb up the social ladder the only way she can: by marrying her daughters off to rich men.

I can’t stand when feminists try and analyze decades, if not centuries old stories from a 21st century perspective. It’s not reasonable and it gives people a reason to disregard feminists who bring up valid points about representation, as you can come off as having a persecution complex, seeing women in a misogynistic light, as if they were incapable of making their own decisions.

That first fucking paragraph of the OP angers me so much;
Cinderella: Do nothing to help yourself. Accept the abuse you get, because one day a fairy person might come out of nowhere and magic you a better life.
Do you have any fucking idea what it’s like living in an abusive home, you fuckstick schrodingersbrian? What the fuck was she going to go if she did run away? Live on the streets and starve? They don’t have shelters or help back then- she’d be shoved back into that house and fucking punished all over again. Also, the step-mother was nice to Cinderella when her father was alive; when he died, she did a 160 and became an abusive asshole. Do you have any idea what that would’ve been like? To have someone act so nice and kind then the instant your father dies they start tormenting, humiliating you and make you work as a damn slave?
Cinderella pretty much shows how to fucking endure under horrid conditions, to be abused and treated horrifically yet she still managed to remain a kind and loving person; she even manages to forgive her step-sisters despite all they did to her. She’s a fucking strong-as-shit person.
So fuck you schrodingersbrain, for acting as if Cinderella was a useless weakling who just ‘accepted’ the abuse.
I like Cinderella don’t fucking diss her
